Social Value

As a business, we recognise that investing in social value creates opportunities for growth and wellbeing. We also recognise our unique position to address societal challenges and enrich community life. Despite being a small team, we are dedicated to delivering positive impacts beyond our size through our work and practices.
For Volterra, social value means improving the economic, social, and environmental wellbeing of our communities, staff, and collaborators through our projects, our programmes and our business.

We also benefit from continuously gaining valuable insights from our stakeholders, giving us deeper insight into the places in which we work. We want to implement a strategy for investing in social value, and more importantly, one that is engaging, responsible, genuine and deliverable. Our social value is structured according to four themes:

1. Employment & skills

In particular, our expertise in high-skilled jobs, our developing employment and skills strategies for our clients and our team’s priority to support people into work and training means that a large proportion of our social value is focused on high-quality employment and skills initiatives.

We believe that such opportunities should be delivered to those residents that are most in need. As such, we pledge that we will prioritise placements for disadvantaged residents and that, for every placement given to a less disadvantaged resident, we will at least match one placement for a disadvantaged resident. We work with local education and employability providers to identify those most in need to ensure that our social value is maximised.

2. Diversity & inclusion

Over 50% of our team are female, including our Senior Partner. We encourage, value and manage diversity, recognising that talent and potential are distributed across the population. Not only are there moral and social reasons for promoting equality of opportunity, but it is valuable for us to recruit our employees from a diverse talent pool, facilitating greater cognitive diversity and more effective critical thinking.
We strive to promote diversity across all levels of our operations and deliver designated training sessions for staff to foster this commitment throughout our team. We commit to offering a working environment based on principles of equality, fairness and respect for all in our employment.

3. Wellbeing & community

Wellbeing is integral to producing high quality work whilst fostering a caring and nurturing professional environment. We offer flexible and remote working opportunities to suit individual needs and we are a London Living Wage Employer. We seek to support local charities through donations of equipment and resources wherever their needs align with our offer.

4. Environment

As a business, we recognise that we are responsible for ensuring that we reduce our environmental impact and are committed to doing so. Sustainability is one of the fundamental factors for creating vibrant places. We aim to support this ambition in both our work and our practices. We promote active travel through cycle to work schemes and have in-house recycling initiatives. This Carbon Reduction Plan reflects our responsibility to ensuring that we minimise our environmental impact.
