We collaborated with RIBA on one of the UK’s most pressing issues – social housing provision. We combined our advanced economic modelling capabilities and RIBA’s on-field expertise to create a self-funded delivery model for the UK’s social housing. Our model shows that an initial investment of £1.24bn by the central government, an amount equal to local authority spending on homelessness in 2022/23, could build 23,105 new social and market homes combined, over 30 years. This investment would generate benefits to the wider society worth £2.76bn, or a £2.23 benefit for every £1 invested. This collaboration shows that bridging the gap between the UK’s current housing state and its aspired position is very much possible with the right resource allocation and timely action.
