We supported Urbanest on their proposals for a purpose-built student accommodation in Vauxhall. We provided our expertise through an economic statement and student accommodation needs study, an equality impact assessment, a social infrastructure assessment and an employment & skills strategy for the planning application. The project gave us a chance to tackle challenging policy topics such as overconcentration of student accommodations in the local area. We carried out extensive data-led research, insights from in-person site visits and advanced mapping techniques to determine the extent of overconcentration and the mix of uses in the site’s catchment. Our work helped understand how the Urbanest’s proposals would enhance Lambeth’s housing offer without compromising the mix and balance of the local area. We are currently working on a land audit to go one step further in our overconcentration analysis and assess the scheme’s integration with the local area.
