A Tale of Inner Cities: A Decade of Achievement in Mental Health Services
The NHS Confederation recently published a history of the Inner City Mental Health Network—a self help group of mental health trusts which contributed to the big improvement in mental health services in the UK—now rated the best in Europe by WHO. Volterra Health’s Nick Bosanquet was one of the founders of the network. He carried out a survey in 1994 which showed that the mental health services were in a crisis of confidence and performance with threats to patient well being. The Network mapped out the way forward for better services with more services in the community in early intervention and assertive outreach. The network was greatly helped by grants from Janssen—an example of partnership with industry. Read the report here.
